“I believe a painting should evoke an emotion from the viewer. And retirement,” says Mary Ann, “has allowed me to spend time in the field of my first passion, art. My paintings are colorful and often represent her travels around the world. Her large watercolor florals are becoming a favorite subject. “They are so colorful and beautiful. How can one not feel beauty and joy viewing a flower?”
Mary Ann studies the subject matter to determine the medium that is used in each drawing. Her favorite mediums are watercolor, pencils and pastels. She is a self-taught artist with an occasional workshop or DVD to inspire and further her work.
Mary Ann found Vero Beach the perfect location for pursuing life’s events. Mary Ann is a former resident of Big Rapids, Michigan and an Emeritus at Ferris State University. You will find her paintings in shows throughout the Treasure Coast area. She is a member of the Vero Beach Art Club, Sebastian River Art Club and Pastel Society of Eastern Florida. . She also donates artwork to local charities. In January 2007 she was awarded an Honorable Mention for her graphite drawing, “Wedding Kiss”, in the Treasure Coast Competitive Art Exhibition. In 2010 she has exhibited at the Backus Art Gallery in Fort Pierce in the “Best of the Best” juried show. At the Sebastian River Art Club Annual Fall Judged show she won second place for “Colorful Daylily”. During the fall of 2010 her watercolor painting, “Nature’s Wonder”, was selected as Easter Seals stamp for 2011 in a national competition.
