Meet sculptor/educator George Paxton:

George Paxton was born in New York City into an artistic family.  His father was a noted musician, big-band leader, songwriter and publisher.  Growing up, George was exposed to a myriad of artistic expressions.  At an early age, he showed an innate facility for the arts and began drawing, painting, and sculpting, activities he has continued throughout his life.

He received his classical education at Columbia University and Vanderbilt, where he was the art editor of a campus magazine, culture editor, and arts columnist for the school newspaper.  He later graduated from the Washington College of Law, and for many years was a partner in a large Maryland law firm.

Never forsaking his interest in art, before and while an attorney, George worked in a home studio and pursued his art education at the Art Students League and Grand Central Academy of Art in New York, the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C., and the Florence Academy of Art in Italy, as well as workshops with renowned sculptors.

After retiring from his law practice twenty years ago, George has maintained a studio in Vero Beach.  He has conducted workshops at the Southern Vermont Art Center, and for the last fifteen years has taught figurative and portrait sculpture at the Vero Beach Museum of Art.  His work has been widely exhibited in juried shows throughout Florida and won numerous awards.
