Meet Sandy:

Artist Biography:
Sandy Bachmann, a 10-year resident of Vero Beach, is a dedicated sculptor and ceramic artist whose work is deeply influenced by the coastal environment.
Her career began after earning a Bachelor’s degree in Advertising Design from the New York Institute of Technology. Following a 23-year career in graphic design, her early work included paintings exhibited in galleries in Islamorada, Florida, and colored pencil pieces for which she received awards. Bachmann later returned to academia to pursue a degree in Art Education, teaching in Broward and Indian River Counties. This period in the school system, during which she encouraged students to explore diverse artistic mediums, fostered her significant affinity for three-dimensional art. Upon retiring from the school system, she fully transitioned to her sculptural focus. She is an active ceramics instructor, specializing in hand-building techniques at the Vero Beach Museum of Art and other studios.
Her love of living by the ocean serves as the primary inspiration for her work, which often results in coastal sculptures that incorporate natural elements, such as coral stone or crystals. Inspired by a documentary, octopuses have become a favorite subject, which she sculpts onto natural coral, integrates into vases, and creates as free-standing pieces. Although some of her work is created on the pottery wheel, the majority is made with either coiling or slab techniques.
A respected member of the Vero Beach Art Club, Sandy has been recognized with several awards in both the prestigious juried Art By The Sea exhibitions and the Vero Beach Art Club Gallery. She sells her smaller, functional works at Art In The Park at Humiston Park. She was featured in the Nov. 2024 issue of LivVero Magazine.
“Art has been my passion since I was in 2nd grade. It has consumed my life!”
