Coastal Rhythms: Hand Cut Stencil Art by Horacio Lertora

Show Dates: November 3-27

First Friday Gallery Stroll Reception:  Nov 6, 5-8pm

In the 1990’s I was very much inspired by street art, people like Shepard Fairey and a lot of unknown artists that put their work up on the streets of New York, Boston and Providence.

My technique of hand cut stencils has evolved over the last 20 years from cut outs with a scroll saw on wood sheet to cardboard, thick stock paper and even discarded medical X-rays. Today I use Mylar and cut them with a box cutter. This technique gives me the ability to make my lines cleaner and to merge images as I pleased as well as being able to throw up my art practically anywhere. I’ve always considered it to be in the Pop Art realm which has been a passion of mine since I was very young.
